Cristina Iotti
“I was practically born surrounded by colors; my father owned a “mesticheria” (a regional term for a shop that sells paints, varnishes, and fine art supplies). He also sold wallpaper, which at the time was present in every home. In the afternoons after school and during summer vacations, I would lose myself among the colors, flipping through the wallpaper sample books. Despite being unfortunately made to study accounting, in the end, my passion for drawing and art prevailed, and I attended an Illustration course at IED in Milan. After collaborating for several years with screen printing studios that specialized in ceramic design, since 2002 I have devoted myself exclusively to art. When I had the opportunity to create wallpapers designed by me, it took me back to my childhood, when I would browse through those sample books, and now, in those sample books—naturally revised and more modern—there are also wallpapers designed and signed by me. This makes me happy and proud. Over the years, I have used all painting techniques, eventually specializing in the use of colored pencils, with which I have won several art awards. Recently, I also discovered photography and cyanotype, an ancient photographic technique. When I create designs for wallpaper, I generally combine and use different artistic mediums together, from watercolors to acrylics, colored pencils, and cyanotype. I live and work in Sassuolo (MO).”
